Tottenham’s ‘dream summer target’ has emerged on the radar of Liverpool.
Tottenham Hotspur are fully focused on preserving their Premier League status in the final 12 matches of the season, with interim head coach Igor Tudor tasked with ensuring the club doesn’t fall further into relegation trouble in the next few weeks.
The Lilywhites have been toothless in attack all season, failing to constantly create chances and score goals. The absences of creative stars James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have had a huge impact on the team, with marquee summer signing Xavi Simons yet to prove himself in a Tottenham shirt.
Before signing Simons from RB Leipzig, Spurs were interested in signing Morgan Gibbs-White. Once Gibbs-White’s move was blocked by Nottingham Forest, they pivoted to Eberechi Eze, but suffered a setback once again as Arsenal stole him under their noses. Tottenham were also interested in Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers.
Liverpool hold initial talks with Morgan Rogers
One of the most exciting young playmakers in the Premier League, Morgan Rogers has become the heartbeat of this Aston Villa side, notching eight goals and five assists in 26 Premier League appearances so far. He has acted as the talismanic figure for his side, piquing the interest of several top clubs across Europe.
Now, according to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool have joined the race for the England international’s signature. They have held initial talks with Rogers’ representatives over a possible summer move, and it is understood that the player is ‘open to all proposals’. However, Aston Villa have made their stance clear: they will not entertain offers below £100 million for their star attacker.
Liverpool are not alone in their interest. Despite being priced out of a move in 2025, Tottenham continue monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation at Villa Park. As per transfer news king Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites view Rogers as a ‘dream’ target for this summer, though persuading him to leave the Villans and join them will be difficult if they can’t offer Champions League football.
Rogers would be a sensational addition to Tottenham’s ranks, adding guile, directness, creativity and goals. He is versatile and tactically astute, and having such a player would also lift the team’s technical level. The English attacking midfielder has impressed with his directness and his ability to pop in with goals in a Villa shirt, and there’s no doubt that he can do the same for Spurs.
However, with Spurs in disarray at the moment and lacking direction, it is unlikely they will challenge Liverpool and other top clubs for the signing of Rogers.
