'It's BS': All-Star gets brutally honest on Chris Paul's controversial retirement

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell shared his thoughts on Chris Paul's retirement in an interview with Andscape's Marc J. Spears.

Mitchell said he can't understand how CP3 was disrespected, calling it messed up that he retired after being waived.

"To see [Paul's] career end the way it did, I think it's BS. I don't know. I don't see all the reports. I don't know the ins and outs of everything. That's not my job. But I know when you have a guy like that, there's a level of respect he deserves, and he wasn't given that opportunity, which I think is messed up," Mitchell said.

The 29-year-old All-Star also spoke about the impact Paul has had on many current NBA players, praising him for what he's done for the league.

"But all that being said, he's a hell of a person. Hell of a point guard. Hell of a player. He has done so much for this game," Mitchell stated.

"As president of the [players' union], he's done so much for us. I wanted to pay my respects to CP, because he's done so much for me, but also for the game of basketball," he added.

Paul had a difficult breakup with the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this season. The franchise icon, who returned to LA for a farewell tour, was controversially sent home by the Clippers.

The 40-year-old was traded to the Toronto Raptors ahead of the NBA trade deadline but was subsequently waived. No team signed Paul for the remainder of the season.

A 12-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA selection, and member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team, Paul ends his legendary career as one of the greatest players in basketball history.
