Fabrizio Romano has provided his view on the reports linking Alexis Mac Allister to Manchester United. On Monday, a report from the Manchester Evening News claimed that the Old Trafford hierarchy have added Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister to their list of primary targets.

In a window where United are expected to overhaul their midfield, Mac Allister has emerged as a serious name under consideration as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new regime looks to inject quality and control into the engine room. With Casemiro set to depart in July, the club chiefs see the Argentina international as a potential cornerstone signing to reset the spine of the team.

United are said to be closely monitoring Mac Allister’s situation at Anfield across the second half of the season rather than pushing immediately, aware that any deal would require both Liverpool’s openness to a sale and the player’s willingness to make such a controversial switch.

However, it does see far-fetched and a bit unrealistic to think the Argentinean would make the move to Old Trafford, and now Fabrizio Romano has seemingly dismissed the claim. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer journalist said:

“At the moment, I’m not aware of anything concrete of strong in terms of links between Manchester United and Mac Allister. Man United will be busy in the summer. Man United will be really busy with that position – could be one, could be two midfielders.

“It could be really interesting, but before they decide who they want, there are two main points to clarify: whether they play in the Champions League next season, which will influence their budget, and who will be the manager – Michael Carrick or other candidates.

“Man United will not decide in February. Among the names, there’s Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, who was a top target under [Ruben] Amorim, Sandro Tonali, and others. At the moment with Alexis Mac Allister, there is nothing really advanced, concrete or starting in terms of conversations.”
