Liverpool supporters on social media have been sent into detective mode after an eye‑catching Instagram exchange between Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade and Reds forward Hugo Ekitike.
This isn’t the first time Woltemade has given Liverpool fans reasons to keep a close eye on him.
In a Premier League media feature earlier this season, the 24‑year‑old named Anfield as the stadium he is most looking forward to playing at. He has also previously revealed that his favourite Premier League player of all time is Steven Gerrard, picking the Liverpool legend ahead of global icons like Cristiano Ronaldo when asked to choose just one.
In the same round of interviews, Woltemade admitted Virgil van Dijk was the toughest defender he could imagine facing, another answer that leaned heavily towards Liverpool‑flavoured praise and only fuelled the perception that he has a soft spot for the club.
Now posting a series of photographs on Instagram showing off his style, Ekitike simply posted a handshake emoji before Woltemade pinned the comment and replied “You know”.
The Frenchman famously turned down Newcastle before joining Liverpool, then scored in a dominant Reds win over the Magpies and has spoken publicly about how happy he is with his decision and his bond with the Kop. The idea of Ekitike now joking around with Newcastle’s new No.27 on social media, the player they turned to after failing to get Ekitike, is interesting to say the least.
On the pitch, Woltemade has quickly shown why Newcastle were willing to make a major investment to bring him from the Bundesliga to St James’ Park. The 1.98m forward has enjoyed a strong debut campaign in the Premier League, scoring four goals in his first eight league appearances.
