Jurgen Klopp had promised not to manage another Premier League club but his agent claims a Chelsea approach was made.

Chelsea and Manchester United have confronted reports that they had made recent enquiries over the availability of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The German’s agent Marc Kosicke had claimed that both Premier League sides had made contact last month as they looked for new managers. Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca and Manchester United moved on from Ruben Amorim with both head coaches falling out with those higher up at their respective clubs.

Klopp hasn’t worked in the dugout since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. The 58-year-old won the Premier League title with the Reds in 2020, as well as the Champions League in 2019 and 2022.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have since made strong appointments. Liam Rosenior has hit the ground running in the Premier League with Stamford Bridge and Michael Carrick has helped bring about an uptick in form at Old Trafford.

TEAMtalk reports that both sides have now denied the suggestions put forward by Kosicke. It’s added that the teams ‘never considered’ appointing Klopp.

The former Liverpool boss, who had also been linked with the Spurs job, had made it clear that he had no intentions of managing a Premier League rival when leaving Liverpool in 2024.

When leaving Anfield, he said: "If you ask me, 'Will you ever work as a manager again?' I would say now no. But I don't know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation.

“What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That's not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn't. I couldn't for a second think about it. There's no chance. This is part of my life, we are part of the family, we feel home here. There's no chance to do that.

"But all the rest, will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around. I will find something else maybe to do. But I will not manage a club or a country at least for a year, that's not possible, I cannot do that and I don't want to. That's all."
