Seahawks get good news on top free agent Rashid Shaheed after Super Bowl

The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl 60, and they did so thanks to an incredible defensive performance and timely offense.

But to get there, the Seahawks needed a lot more from different players. One of the biggest contributors for the Seahawks in the second half of the year was trade deadline pickup from the New Orleans Saints, Rashid Shaheed.

Now set to be a free agent, the Seahawks might lose the dynamic receiver/returner this offseason. But, ESPN's Matt Bowen, in naming Shaheed's best fit back with Seattle, gave Seahawks fans some good news that there's no better landing spot for the speedster this offseason.

Seahawks named best fit for Rashid Shaheed in free agency

"After trading multiple picks to acquire Shaheed during the season, re-signing the wide receiver makes sense for the Seahawks, given his impact in multiple phases of the game," Bowen writes.

The speedy wide receiver is one of the best returners in the NFL, and would surely find plenty of teams expressing interest in him this offseason.

But, as Bowen noted, the best team fit for Shaheed this offseason is back with the Seahawks. He will not be relied upon to be a top receiver and instead will be used as an extra option behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Ignoring the context of Shaheed's impact, seeing his receiving totals of 15 receptions for 188 yards and no touchdowns, it wouldn't be a surprise if Seattle let him walk.

But, considering his impact as a returner, which featured a kickoff and punt return touchdown in just half a season (along with his opening NFC Divisional Round kickoff touchdown), re-signing Shaheed won't only be as a receiver.

Keeping the dynamic speedster isn't just as a gadget player on offense, but as one of the best returners in the NFL in an era where the return game is more important than ever; Shaheed's value to the Seahawks is much greater than it might look on paper.

Bowen naming the Seahawks as Shaheed's best fit this offseason is some good news, as it makes it clear that Shaheed's best option this offseason is to return to Seattle.
