Seahawks reportedly unlikely to use franchise tag on Kenneth Walker III

The Seahawks are unlikely to use the franchise or transition tag on running back Kenneth Walker III, who was named MVP of Super Bowl LX, ESPN reported Tuesday morning.

The report said the Seahawks have several other free agents they want to retain and want to extend the contract of receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Tuesday is the first day teams can apply franchise or transition tags to players.

Kenneth Walker can become an unrestricted free agent next month if he and the Seahawks don’t agree to a contract before then. He would cost a projected $14.5 million under the franchise tag, according to ESPN, while the transition tag, a one-year tender offer, would cost $11.7 million.

Walker had 135 yards rushing and another 26 yards receiving to win MVP honors at the Super Bowl.
