John Harbaugh makes first signing as Giants’ de facto general manager

As you assess what the [Giants](https://www.nj.com/giants/) do [this offseason](https://www.nj.com/giants/2026/02/nfl-mock-draft-2026-giants-land-fascinating-weapon-for-jaxson-dart.html), don’t lose sight of this: John Harbaugh is essentially their general manager.

Yes, Joe Schoen still has that title — for what it’s worth (really nothing at this point) — but Harbaugh leads the football operations in East Rutherford.

And now, Harbaugh has made his first free agent signing.

Well, it’s not a true free agent acquisition — just a reserve/future contract — but it’s a signing nonetheless.

The distinction of being Harbaugh’s first signing goes to wide receiver Courtney Jackson — who, like pretty much all players who get a reserve/future deal, is a low-profile name.

He went undrafted last year after playing collegiately at Syracuse and Arkansas State. The Broncos signed him after the draft and cut him at the end of training camp. He spent the season on Seattle’s practice squad.

So he was part of a Super Bowl championship team, even though he didn’t play in any games and never ascended to the active roster.

Jackson is 5-foot-11 and 179 pounds. He has potential as a returner, since he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds at his pro day last year.

During his six college seasons, Jackson returned four punts for touchdowns, including two during 2024 at Arkansas State. Overall, Jackson returned just 15 punts in 2024. So it’s pretty impressive that he brought two back for touchdowns.

Bottom line: This is a low-risk addition for Harbaugh, who has a special teams background and knows an effective returner when he sees one.
