Vikings Projected to Make ‘Crazy' Justin Jefferson Trade

The NFL’s free agency period is just a few weeks away, and although the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks have one of the best defenses the league has seen in some time, there could also be a sense that the field will still be wide open next season. That means that at least one team could make a trade or signing that could shake up the race for next season’s Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Minnesota Vikings may be in a sort of limbo right now. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy made his league debut this season after missing all of 2024, which would’ve been his rookie year, with a meniscus injury. His play was very much a mixed bag, which seems to give the team limited potential for 2026.

Could the Vikings look to tear it down and rebuild? They have one of the best wide receivers in the business in Justin Jefferson, who is coming off an underwhelming (by his standards) year. Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports made 10 “crazy” predictions for this offseason, and on top of his list is a trade involving Jefferson that could shift the league’s landscape by a huge amount.

Dajani predicts that the Vikings will send Jefferson to the Buffalo Bills, who have already been one of the NFL’s best teams for the last several years. His reasoning is the fact that the Bills have hired Joe Brady to be their new head coach.

“Joe Brady’s name popped up on NFL radars in 2019, when he served as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at LSU. The undefeated Tigers had a historical season, which was powered by the play of Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. Now, he’s the head coach of the Bills, and this offseason, Buffalo makes an aggressive move to pair its new coach with a friend of his — sending the Minnesota Vikings a package of picks for Jefferson.”

Jefferson played in all 17 games in 2025, but his 1,048 receiving yards, two touchdowns and 12.5 yards per reception were career lows for him. Perhaps a change of scenery would do plenty of good for the 26-year-old four-time Pro Bowler.

Jefferson could be the missing piece the Bills need to go all the way

According to at least one report, Sean McDermott, the Bills’ previous head coach, expressed doubt and unhappiness about the team’s roster construction before he was fired in January. One of Buffalo’s biggest position holes is at wide receiver, where it lacks an elite playmaker and game-breaker.

Not too long ago, they had Stefon Diggs, who made the Pro Bowl in each of his four years in Buffalo. But in 2025, Khalil Shakir was the team’s leading pass-catcher with a modest 719 yards, four touchdowns and 10 yards per catch.

Buffalo went 12-5 and was, in the minds of some, the favorite to reach the Super Bowl once the playoffs started. But it lost by three points in overtime in the divisional round to the Denver Broncos. Longtime members of Bills Mafia have seen this movie way too many times, and they’re sick of the hypertension that the franchise’s annual failures keep causing them.

Jefferson would not only give the Bills the legitimate No. 1 option in their passing game they have lacked, but he could make them the true favorites to win the AFC - perhaps over even the defending AFC champion New England Patriots. Quarterback Josh Allen and his powerful throwing arm could help Jefferson’s game reach new heights.

In 2024, Jefferson posted 103 catches, 1,533 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His quarterback that year was Sam Darnold, who revived his career that year and just led the Seahawks to the world title over the Patriots earlier this month. In 2022, Jefferson flirted with the mythical 2,000 receiving yard mark when Kirk Cousins had his last great year in Minnesota. That season, Cousins threw for 4,547 yards and was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time.

With Allen’s 30th birthday quickly approaching, this is the time for the Bills to make a bold move and end the pain they and their fans have always experienced. Trading for Jefferson could very well be the elixir they need to finally win their first Super Bowl championship.
