Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes Chelsea star Cole Palmer would be the “perfect replacement” should Bruno Fernandes depart at the end of the season, tipping the England international for a sensational and controversial return to Manchester to fill the creative void.
Fernandes, who joined Manchester United in January 2020, currently has a contract running until 2027, with an option for an additional year. The 29-year-old has been a central figure in the club’s midfield, contributing consistently with goals, assists, and leadership. His influence on the pitch has been complemented by his role as team captain, making him one of the club’s most important assets both on and off the field.
However – despite the fact he is the biggest and most influential player at Old Trafford right now, there has been alot of speculation in the media that he could be one player that actually gets sold in the summer if he fails to agree a new contract with the Manchester giants.
And if Fernandes were to depart, filling his boots would require a talent capable of handling the immense pressure of the Theatre of Dreams, and that has led to many reports in the media which have claimed that Cole Palmer is the player that Man United would like to sign
Palmer has taken the Premier League by storm since trading Manchester City for CHELSEA, registering goal involvements at a rate that rivals the best in Europe. His ability to function as a one-man attack has drawn admiring glances, and Saha is convinced he is the perfect fit.
“It would be incredibly exciting to see Cole Palmer at Manchester United. He’s not a Man City player anymore… He can play pretty much anywhere in attack,” Saha gushed.
“He has managed to play in the Chelsea side with maybe 10 different types of forwards and has still been the main man. So that shows how reliable he is,” the Frenchman noted.
Will Fernandes leave Man United?
Manchester United sources emphasise that while no formal agreement is imminent, dialogue with Fernandes is expected to continue in the coming months. The club are reportedly optimistic that a deal can be reached that secures his future beyond 2027, maintaining stability in a squad currently undergoing strategic restructuring.
So even though Cole Palmer is wanted at Old Trafford, we simply cannot see CHELSEA letting one of their biggest players actually depart, especially for a Champions League place rival like United.
