Broncos not named as potential landing spot for Tyreek Hill following Dolphins release

The Miami Dolphins made some surprising news on Monday when they announced the release of veteran wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The move is part of a complete overhaul of their roster and Hill, who will turn 32 years old on March 1, tore his ACL in Week 4 last season.

Hill, who is one of the better wide receivers of his era, intends to continue his playing career and there will likely be several teams interested in his services. Garrett Podell of CBS Sports does not expect the Broncos to be one of them.

Instead, he sees all three of the other teams in the AFC West as potential fits, along with the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers. The Broncos will be looking for a dynamic option at the wide receiver position and Hill, one of the fastest wide receivers to ever step foot on an NFL field, has the numbers to back that idea up.

Does Tyreek Hill make sense for the Broncos?

For his career, Hill has caught 819 passes for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns. Those are arguably Hall-of-Fame numbers.

The Broncos would also have a chance to get a former member of the Chiefs on their roster, and that could set up some fun matchups in the future. That said, the chance of Hill returning to Kansas City may be the most likely outcome.

Hill has the talent, but he's been a controversial player throughout his career due to several off-field incidents. That might not be the kind of player the Broncos want to introduce to this roster. In addition, a torn ACL at this stage in his career is a serious concern and there is a good chance that much of what has made him so special on the field throughout his career will no longer be there.

The Broncos need a No. 1 option. But they need a more stable option and turning the page on a potential connection with Hill would be the right move. There are also concerning reports that Hill's injury may be serious enough to put him on the sideline for all of next season as well.

That said, if Payton brushed all of that aside and proved this prediction wrong by deciding to sign Hill, how many fans within Broncos Country would really complain? It would still be seen as an exciting addition, one that fans would be buzzing about as soon as he put on a uniform for the first time at training camp.
