The father of Alexis Mac Allister has responded to reports that Manchester United are looking at trying to sign the Liverpool No.10.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have added Mac Allister to their list of potential summer midfield targets and are keeping a close eye on developments at Anfield.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to oversee a major rebuild in the middle of the park, with Casemiro likely to move on and United drawing up alternatives such as Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.
The Argentinian’s contract situation is cited as a reason why the Red Devils are even considering a deal. Now Mac Allister Snr, who also acts as his son’s agent, has put the rumours to bed.
Speaking to WinWin Sports, he asserted that the 27-year-old is only focusing on Liverpool contract talks for now – but hinted that it is in the club’s hands:
“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We’ll see what the club’s plan is.”
When quizzed further on whether his son would consider a move away from the Premier League, Mac Allister Snr kept his cards close to his chest: “We’ll wait and see what happens in terms of the renewal. That’s all.”
Additionally, Fabrizio Romano also poured cold water on these reports on Monday night, saying on his YouTube channel:
“At the moment, I’m not aware of anything concrete of strong in terms of links between Manchester United and Mac Allister. Man United will be busy in the summer. Man United will be really busy with that position – could be one, could be two midfielders.”
“It could be really interesting, but before they decide who they want, there are two main points to clarify: whether they play in the Champions League next season, which will influence their budget, and who will be the manager – Michael Carrick or other candidates.”
“Man United will not decide in February. Among the names, there’s Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, who was a top target under [Ruben] Amorim, Sandro Tonali, and others. At the moment with Alexis Mac Allister, there is nothing really advanced, concrete or starting in terms of conversations.”
