Bills get good news on signing one of Josh Allen's best friends

The Buffalo Bills have two key free agents on the offensive line.

No, not glamorous, but important.

David Edwards and Connor McGovern are both slated to hit the open market.

In a new article on ESPN.com, Matt Bowen thinks that the guard Edwards may wind up with the Los Angeles Chargers.

But more encouraging for the Bills, Bowen lists Buffalo as the best fit to get McGovern back.

McGovern is the center for the Bills, and at least as depicted in Hard Knocks before the 2025 season, one of Allen's best friends.

A quarterback and center need to have a great relationship, and it's not always something easy to build with a new guy. If Buffalo can keep them together, that's a key cog in the offense that would remain stable.

"McGovern is still in his prime, and the Bills can re-sign him as the centerpiece of the line in coach Joe Brady's offense," Bowen wrote. "McGovern is a steady blocker, and his 97.2% pass block win rate tied for second among 31 qualifying centers last season."

If the Bills can only keep one of McGovern or Edwards, it probably makes sense for it to be the center.

Edwards would be a notable loss, though.

"Edwards has played his best football as a pro over his past two seasons with the Bills," Bowen writes. "He has excellent movement traits at 6-foot-6 and 308 pounds, and his 95% pass block win rate in 2025 ranked 12th among 65 qualifying guards."

The worst outcome for Buffalo, of course, would be losing both.

At least this analysis from Bowen splits the difference, and bringing McGovern back would be a quality move that Allen would surely appreciate.
