Wayne Rooney disagrees as Jamie Carragher compares Liam Rosenior to a former Chelsea boss

Wayne Rooney has drawn on his personal experience of working alongside Liam Rosenior to dismiss Jamie Carragher’s recent comparisons between the current Chelsea head coach and Graham Potter.

Liam Rosenior has had his critics since becoming Chelsea boss, but he’s managed to keep things together rather well and is reaping the rewards on the field.

Chelsea find themselves in the Champions League Round of 16, as well as the next round of the FA Cup. One of the only minor blips was being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Arsenal.

Enzo Fernandez is one of the biggest believers of Rosenior, praising him for the change he’s made to his game at Chelsea and the differences in the side.

And he’s not the only one, as Wayne Rooney has spoken up about him.

Liam Rosenior compared to Graham Potter by Jamie Carragher

Speaking on The Overlap YouTube channel, Jamie Carragher went on about Liam Rosenior’s off-field antics, and even wondered if it is all an act.

“There’s definitely something about him when you see him in the press conference, and the reason I don’t know if it’s a bit of an act sort of play to be the big manager, but do you remember when you had Graeme Potter?

“There’s no doubt Graeme Potter is a really good coach. We saw that at Brighton and he got the job. It never felt like the right fit. He never feltlike he had the personality or like almost the strength, you know, to sort of manage a club like that.

“And I waswondering whether it’d be almost the same. You just look at someone, and it just doesn’t look right. So, as I said, whether it’s an act or whether it’s his own self. It doesn’t feel like I’m looking at this weak guy. We don’t know if he’s good enough yet. We’ll see over the years.”

Wayne Rooney jumps to Liam Rosenior’s defence at Chelsea

Wayne Rooney and Liam Rosenior worked together at Derby County for 18 months, with the Chelsea boss serving as the former Manchester United midfielder’s assistant.

And there’s still a lot of love between the two, with Rooney putting Carragher in his place after his comments about Rosenior and Potter.

“But do you think if this is like Ruben Amorim or a young foreign coach who comes in and whatever you say, Liam’s acting like, he’s not lad.

“Do you think he gets the scrutiny that Liam’s getting if a young phone coach comes in?”

Good on Rooney for standing up against what the majority of the media are saying. He’s a young manager trying to prove himself at Chelsea, yet his every move seems to be scrutinised.
