Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens was visiting the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, when he found himself making one more big play, this time against a would-be thief.
Owens shared the story on X on Sunday, explaining what transpired when someone tried to steal from him.
“Not somebody just tried to snatch my shopping bag in Milan,” Owens said. “Force of habit, I had it tied around my hand so he couldn’t get it and took off running immediately….but still crazy.”
When asked by another X user if the would-be thief looked fast as he tried to run away after the attempt, Owens made a joke about the person’s running form.
“Not fast at all bro,” Owens replied. “His arms were moving faster than his legs lol. Should’ve seen his face once he realized I turned around and he couldn’t grab it.”
Owens was at the Olympics with his wife, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles. The two have been photographed attending different events. Us Weekly reported the two were spotted together shopping at a boutique store in Milan.
Owens’ quick reaction on the streets of Milan mirrored his instincts on the field last season with the Bears. Primarily playing special teams, Owens finished with 19 tackles for a Bears team that made the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Owens, 30, is set to be a free agent this offseason.
