Liverpool only need to add one or two players in the summer but the race is already hotting up to land one of their top targets.
Few things are more certain in life than Liverpool going out and signing a new winger in the summer.
Arne Slot has spoken about a missing spark or piece of magic from his forward line throughout the season. How rarely he has turned to Rio Ngumoha has annoyed some elements of the Reds support having to watch Cody Gakpo rack up decent numbers but also cut inside every time that he has possession, as well as how often he ignores the overlapping Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool target considering La Liga exit
It was a good deal to sell Luis Diaz, even if he hasn’t really been replaced, with Mohamed Salah on the other wing almost certain to leave Anfield after years of successful service and as many records as he has goals. Several of Europe’s best and most promising have been linked with Bradley Barcola at Paris Saint Germain a target and Liverpool reported to be leading the race to sign Yan Diomande at RB Leipzig.
Both of these players could prove to be expensive, however, due to Athletic Club’s transfer ban hitting them where it hurts, they are said to be willing to part ways with Nico Williams after the Spain international signed a new contract last summer to end speculation of an exit. According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, Arsenal are monitoring Williams’ situation and are considering the 23-year old to add to their growing winger contingent with Liverpool also reported to be keen on the Spain winger.
How much would Williams cost?
The transfer journalist said of the latest update from the Basque outfit: “Arsenal have been told by intermediaries that Nico Williams is ready to consider a summer exit from Athletic Bilbao, TEAMtalk understands, and the Gunners are among a handful of elite clubs now being quietly briefed on his availability.
“The 23‑year‑old’s decision to sign a shock 10‑year deal at the San Mames did not end the transfer talk – far from it – because that contract carried a release clause understood to be in the region of €100million (£87m / $119m).”
Williams has the X-factor that Slot is looking for, he is also experienced at the sort of level that Liverpool need. It is no surprise that his name is still on a list in Richard Hughes’ office.
