Falcons named “best team fit” for top free agent by ESPN

With Kirk Cousins still taking up a large portion of the salary cap, the Falcons won’t have a ton of money to spend this offseason. But they can make at least a couple of significant moves, and they now have yet another glaring hole following the recent arrest of star pass rusher James Pearce Jr.

Over at ESPN, Matt Bowen ranked the top 50 free agents and provided the best team fits for each, naming the Falcons the best fit for two of them.

Myers was ranked the 11th-best free agent in this year’s class and would really help ease some concerns across the defensive line with James Pearce’s future up in the air. He’s posted 14.5 sacks over the last two seasons in Denver and has experience with Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, as the two were together in New York with the Jets.

Myers isn’t some star pass rusher, but those kinds of targets rarely become attainable via free agency. Even if one does this offseason, the Falcons likely aren’t in a position to pursue him because of their financial situation and lack of draft capital. Myers would be a great addition to Atlanta’s defensive front, something the team should continue to focus on strengthening after finishing with a franchise-record 57 sacks this past season.

The Falcons were also named the best team fit for one of their own free agents in Kyle Pitts.

“Pitts will have options in free agency after he set career highs for receptions (88) and touchdowns (five) in 2025, but I still see a strong fit if he stays put in Atlanta under new coach Kevin Stefanski,” Bowen writes. “With heavily defined concepts, Stefanski can set up Pitts to attack open coverage voids off play-action and also create isolation matchups.”

The Falcons will likely try to work out a contract extension, and they also have the option of franchise-tagging Pitts. However, with massive extensions looming for Drake London and Bijan Robinson, combined with Pitts’ inconsistencies and injury problems over his first five seasons, there’s also a case for the Falcons to move on from the former 4th overall pick.
