A lot of his teammates and coaches are thrilled that he will be returning. Next season could potentially be the final year of Stafford’s career in the NFL. This offseason, there is no doubt that head coach Sean McVay and the organization have to start thinking about life after him.

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson (15) throws the ball against Indiana Hoosiers defensive lineman Mario Landino (97) on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, during the 112th annual Rose Bowl game in Pasadena. Indiana Hoosiers defeated Alabama Crimson Tide, 38-3.

Profootballfocus.com writer Gordon McGuinness created his latest three-round NFL mock draft for 2026. With the Rams having the 29th overall selection, he has this franchise selecting quarterback Ty Simpson from the Alabama Crimson Tide. It would be good for him to learn for a season under the 38-year-old. McGuinness said,

“WithMatthew Staffordannouncing that he will return for the 2026 NFL season, the Rams have the opportunity to draft a quarterback and let them sit for at least a season. Simpson earned an 83.1 PFF overall grade in his lone season as a starter. Allowing him to learn from Stafford could unlock his NFL potential.”

Simpson was a one-year starter for Alabama. He led them to the playoffs this season. Simpson is 6’2″ and weighs 208 lbs. He is the perfect pocket passer for McVay’s system. During the 2025 college football season with the Crimson Tide, Simpson completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. This would be a good landing spot for him. If the Rams don’t go quarterback, then they should address the secondary issues instead.
