Former Chelsea star Emmanuel Petit has urged Arsenal to sign Julian Alvarez in the summer. He believes that the Argentine suits Mikel Arteta's tactics and would be a statement signing from the Gunners.
Speaking to Ignition Casino, Petit said that he has been a fan of Alvarez from the Argentine's time at Manchester City. He has backed the Atletico Madrid star to deliver with goals and assists, and added that the physicality suits all the top clubs across Europe. He said (via Metro):
"When Julian Alvarez was playing for City, I really liked him. He didn't start every single game but every time he played for City, and for Atletico as well since, he has been really special. He can score goals and give assists, but he's got temper, personality, and character. I think in terms of movement he is very intelligent. Physically as well, he's a top player and technically, he's got everything to suit the best clubs in Europe."
Petit believes that Manchester City would also be happy to sign him again, but urged Arsenal to make the move. He claimed that it would be a great addition to the squad and said:
"The reason why he left City was because he wanted to play regular football, but I think Pep Guardiola would be very happy to have him back in the squad. So definitely, if Arsenal have a chance to get him, with the connection with the Spanish players and the way they play up front, I think that would be great news for Arsenal. That would be a very, very good addition to the squad and a statement."
Atletico Madrid are reportedly open to selling Julian Alvarez and have slapped a £82 million price tag.
Arsenal target has not held talks with Barcelona, says agent
Julian Alvarez has been linked with Barcelona this summer as they look to replace Robert Lewandowski with the Argentine. Reports in Spain suggested that he had already held talks with the Catalan club, but his agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has rebuffed the claims. He said: (via Barca Universal):
"We have never spoken to any candidate for the presidency of Barcelona and everything that is being said about it is not true. Julian has a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2030, and anyone who wants to sign him must contact the club, not us."
Apart from Arsenal, Chelsea are also interested in signing the former Manchester City star this summer.
