There is still plenty of work for Liverpool to do this season, and it could have a major impact on their summer transfer plans. Arne Slot moved closer to a second trophy at Anfield as his side eased into the FA Cup fifth round with victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, his main priority remains securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season. Failing to reach Europe’s top competition could affect Liverpool’s ability to finance major signings.
Qualification would be crucial if the club plans to build further on the arrival of Jeremey Jacquet, with ongoing rumours about additional high-profile targets.
RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards just six months into his Bundesliga career. After joining from CD Leganes last summer, the 19-year-old has registered nine goals and six assists in 24 appearances across all competitions, sparking reports that the reigning Premier League champions could target him in the summer.
Diomande recently clarified his earlier comments about Liverpool being his “dream” club. He raised eyebrows in November when he said he was “a big fan of Liverpool” and dreamed of “playing at Anfield.”
In a recent interview with Bild, Diomande explained that his connection to the club is largely influenced by his father’s passion for Liverpool and the iconic atmosphere at Anfield.
“People made it out to be my dream club, but first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club,” Yan Diomande said. “It was always his great wish to see me play there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield.
“He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play, and we didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool look ready to join the race for Yan Diomande. Manchester United and Chelsea have also been monitoring Diomande, with Liverpool scouts in attendance as he scored in Leipzig’s 2-2 home draw against VfL Wolfsburg last weekend.
The young forward, seen as a potential replacement for Saudi Arabia target Mohamed Salah, is also wanted by Bayern Munich. Leipzig have valued him at over £80million, though that price could drop if the club, currently fifth in the Bundesliga, fail to secure Champions League football next season.
