When Rob McElhenney sent a speculative message to Chelsea’s owners following a pre-season friendly three years ago, most viewed it as a lighthearted Hollywood dream, but that prophecy is about to become a competitive reality at the Racecourse Ground.
Chelsea‘s FA Cup run goes on after an emphatic 4-0 win over Hull City, with Liam Rosenior getting the better of his former side.
And the Blues are set to travel to Wales to face Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, which has all the makings for a tough encounter.
Wrexham owners Ryan McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were rather excited at the prospect of facing Chelsea in the FA Cup, with their reaction shared online.
Interestingly, this was all predicted only three years ago in America.

Ryan McElhenney predicted Wrexham would face Chelsea in 2028
Wrexham and Chelsea were involved in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening that took place on American soil in North Carolina.
The Blues proved to be too much, winning 5-0, but McElhenney hoped that Wrexham would cross paths with Chelsea in the future, hinting at Premier League promotion.
“Thank you Chelsea! Hopefully we’ll see you again in 5 years or so :).”
The Blues responded by saying: “Diolch, [Thank you] Rob! Best of luck for the new season.”
And the FA Cup draw has just made this possible.
Would you start Sarr against Burnley, and who does he replace?
Wrexham’s season to date
Phil Parkinson’s side currently sits 8th in the table with 47 points, placing them firmly in the hunt for promotion to join Chelsea in the Premier League.
However, it is their FA Cup heroics that have captured the attention. By defeating Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town, the Red Dragons reached the fifth round for the first time in 29 years.
This sets up a showdown against Chelsea at the Racecourse Ground, the first competitive meeting between the sides in 44 years.
It will be a good test to see exactly how far Wrexham have come against the Blues.
