The Jaguars re-signed Deejay Dallas
NFL free agency is less than a month away and the Jacksonville Jaguars will have to make decisions on key players who led them to 13 wins in the 2025 season. The teamcurrently has 12 players set to hit free agency, and the group is led by linebacker Devin Lloyd Jr., and running back Travis Etienne.
Lloyd had the best season of his career in 2025 as he made his first career Pro Bowl and earned second-team All-Pro honors. Meanwhile, Etienne bounced back after a disappointing 2024 season, and totaled nearly 1,400 scrimmage yards while scoring a career-high 13 touchdowns.
Now, the Jaguars have announced that they have re-signed a running back amid the uncertainty on Etienne’s free agent status.
Jacksonville Jaguars Re-Sign Deejay Dallas
On Jan. 16, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they had re-signed running back Deejay Dallas. The team posted on their official website regarding the signing, “Dallas appeared in three games with the Jaguars last season after signing with the team in December. With Jacksonville, Dallas returned six kicks for 180 yards and added two carries for 21 yards.
Dallas was originally drafted by Seattle in the fourth round (144th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft and has since played in 84 games (two starts) for the Seahawks (2020-23), Cardinals (2024), Panthers (2025) and Jaguars (2025). His career totals include 124 rushes for 538 yards and four touchdowns; 64 receptions for 407 yards and two touchdowns; 89 kickoff returns for 2,254 yards and a touchdown; and 39 punt returns for 367 yards.”
Coming into the NFL Draft in 2020,SB Nation writer Dylan Sherry wrote of Dallas, “Dallas is proving to scouts that his skillset is dynamic and multidimensional. DeeJay’s versatility was made obvious to us from the very beginning of his career in Miami. Switching from wide receiver to running back under former head coach Mark Richt’s offense, Dallas displayed soft hands and superb open-field vision in his 3 years with the Hurricanes—another aspect scouts are finally becoming aware of.”
After signing with the Jaguars late last season, he will get a chance to develop in Liam Coen’s offense with a full offseason and training program with the team.
Upcoming Jaguars Free Agents
Originally, Dallas was going to be one of the Jaguars’ free agents this offseason, but now he will be a part of the team heading into the 2026 season. However, the team must still decide what to do with the previously mentioned Lloyd and Etienne. A possible option the team has is applying the franchise tag.
Regarding the franchise tag option, ESPN writer Michael DiRocco wrote,“Lloyd is coming off the best year of his career (five interceptions, a fumble recovery, 10 QB hits, 1.5 sacks) and was a second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler, but the Jaguars aren’t likely to tag Lloyd. The linebacker tag is projected to be $28.2 million, per OverTheCap.com, which is a large number for a non-pass-rushing linebacker who had an up-and-down first three years. Remember, the team declined to pick up his fifth-year option last spring because of that.
It’s a similar situation with Etienne in regard to the projected tag number ($14.5 million). Etienne did post 1,399 scrimmage yards and scored a career-high 13 touchdowns, but his production on the ground tailed at the end of the season. He averaged 3.2 yards per carry in the final six games, a significant drop-off from the 4.8 yards per carry he averaged in the first 11 games.”
