SI on Eagles' John McMullen called Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles hiring Parks Frazier as quarterbacks coach a "bold decision."

Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles experienced a shake up with their offensive coaching staff this offseason. Another piece of the puzzle came into place this week.

CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported Monday the Eagles moved passing game coordinator Parks Frazier to quarterbacks coach. Frazier will replace veteran quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler, who joined Philadelphia’s staff just last year.

A day after that report, SI on Eagles’ John McMullen called the switch in Frazier’s role a “bold decision.”

“The Eagles had been looking for an upgrade at quarterbacks coach and reportedly interviewed Cardinals passing game specialist Connor Senger, and were also linked to veteran NFL coach Greg Olson, who once coached Mannion in Seattle,” wrote McMullen.

“The Eagles had been looking for an upgrade at quarterbacks coach and reportedly interviewed Cardinals passing game specialist Connor Senger, and were also linked to veteran NFL coach Greg Olson, who once coached Mannion in Seattle.

“Steering to Frazier is interesting because the former Murray State signal caller has never been in charge of a position group in an NFL coaching career that will reach its ninth season in 2026.”

Frazier served as an assistant quarterbacks coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2021-22. He was the team’s interim offensive coordinator in 2022 as well under interim head coach Jeff Saturday.

But as McMullen indicated, Frazier hasn’t run his own position group — any position at any coaching level.

“In contrast, Loeffler has nearly 20 years of hands-on teaching of QBs, albeit most of it in college, and Olson has 20 years of directing QB rooms, with most of his work in the NFL,” added McMullen.

“Tasking Frazier with getting Hurts up to speed with technique and fundamentals will be an obvious second-guessing point if things go poorly or even slowly.”

The Tall Task Parks Frazier Faces as Eagles New QB Coach

McMullen used the phrase “tall task” to describe the job Frazier has meshing with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and the team’s new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

In Mannion’s new offense, Hurts will need to learn different footwork and “drop points.” That’s because Mannion’s play-calling is likely to feature more play-action pass than what the former Super Bowl MVP is accustomed to.

Frazier teaching fundamentals of any kind will be new for him. The good news is he played quarterback at Murray State. Also, he at least possesses some experience in an NFL quarterbacks room.

Frazier is only 34 years old, but his coaching career started more than a decade ago. His first NFL role came with the Colts under Frank Reich in 2018.

He coached under Reich with the Carolina Panthers during 2023 as well. Additionally, Frazier served as an assistant under offensive guru Mike McDaniel with the Miami Dolphins during 2024.

Frazier’s Experience With Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni

Similar to Frazier, Reich was heavily influential in Sirianni’s coaching career. Sirianni coached under Reich with the then San Diego Chargers from 2013-15 and then with the Colts from 2018-20.

So, Sirianni and Frazier worked on the same staff in Indianapolis for three years. They reunited last season when Sirianni hired Frazier as passing game coordinator.

The previous relationship is obvious, and maybe Frazier’s presence on last year’s staff will give Hurts some continuity in the new offense.

But the Eagles moving from the seasoned Loeffler to the inexperienced Frazier will be a transition.

Last year was Loeffler’s second in the NFL. But he has coached quarterbacks in some capacity dating back to 2000.
