Liverpool’s defensive woes continued as Jeremie Frimpong suffered a muscle injury against Qarabag, adding to the season-long absence of Conor Bradley. Joe Gomez recently returned from injury, featuring in the Reds’ 3-0 FA Cup win over Brighton.

Arne Slot has deployed Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, and Wataru Endo at right-back this season, but Endo is now sidelined for several weeks with injury. The situation has fueled speculation about a possible right-back signing this summer, which Slot has addressed.

The Dutchman said last month: “As a club, we always make decisions – what we think are smart decisions – not only in the short term but the long term, which is why we sign younger players. It always depends on whether there are players available that we think can help us.

“If there are, can we afford them. I just said that we don’t have a squad where we have four right-backs and 12 midfielders and three or four no.9s. That’s not how it works over here. So we have to do smart things for the near future, but also for the longer future.”

Liverpool were linked with a late winter move for Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries and also failed in their attempt to sign Sunderland’s Lutsharel Geertruida before the close of the transfer window.

According to A Spor, Liverpool are among several Premier League clubs tracking Galatasaray defender Roland Sallai, with Sunderland and Brentford also interested. The 28-year-old Hungary international joined from Freiburg in September 2024, has made 65 appearances with seven goals and seven assists, and earned 64 senior caps with 15 international goals.

Sunderland made serious January attempts to sign Sallai but fell short. A Spor reports Brentford may make an end-of-season offer, with Galatasaray open to trimming their squad this summer, though the asking price and Sunderland’s future interest remain unclear.
