Mohamed Salah is a Liverpool legend but one Sky Sports pundit is predicting that his days at the club are numbered.

Liverpool will undertake the second phase of their regeneration under Arne Slot this summer with more money almost certain to be spent.

Last summer’s record spend probably won’t be matched although qualifying for the Champions League will certainly help to fund the sort of acquisition needed to replace a club legend. Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with an Anfield exit with the 33-year old’s contract extension looking like good business sense with the benefit of hindsight. Despite his advancing years, Salah will still attract big bids and bring in the sort of money that can help to fund a deal to bring in his replacement.

Liverpool expected to sell Mohamed Salah

That’s what Sherwood predicts, as he laid out on Sky Sports on Monday. “We have to thank Mo Salah for the time he has given to the Premier League,” Sherwood said. “In an era where there’s not a great deal of world-class players, he’s certainly been one.

“In my opinion, I think he 100% leaves that club and he gets a fantastic ovation at the end of the season, whether that’s with a bit of silverware or not. He deserves silverware, he certainly does, but whatever happens, he’s been a magnificent servant to the club.”

Who are on Liverpool’s shopping list to replace Salah?

The timing isn’t just right for Salah to leave Liverpool, the timing is also right for Liverpool to sign a new winger to fill the sizeable hole that will be left behind. There are several names doing the rounds with whoever is signed needing to hit the ground running and show that they have the confidence to lead the forward line for the Reds.

Speculation has suggested that Paris Saint Germain’s Bradley Barcola is near the top of the shopping list, as is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, however, with Athletic Club experiencing financial issues, it isn’t a surprise to see Nico Williams back on Richard Hughes’ radar. Michael Olise is the dream replacement, but Bayern Munich won’t want to lose a player with 38 goals and assists this season already. Salah will be impossible to replace, but Liverpool at least seem to be eyeing some of the best in Europe.
