Tyrod Taylor sent a clear message about his future with the Jets.
Few NFL quarterbacks have the experience Tyrod Taylor brings to the table as the veteran hits free agency after starting four games for the New York Jets in 2025. During an exclusive interview with Heavy Sports, Taylor addressed his future with the Jets, emphasizing his desire to continue his NFL career.
During his 15 NFL seasons, Taylor has played in 100 games, including 62 starts. Taylor is campaigning to return to New York next season but left the door open to playing for another team in 2026.
“Yeah, I believe in the coaches there,” Taylor told Heavy Sports regarding his desire to return to the Jets. “I like the players. The locker room is very special, close knit. Got a lot of talent in there too.
“Obviously last year didn’t go the way we wanted it to from a record standpoint, but I have all the belief in the guys in that room to be able to turn it around,” Taylor continued.
“So that’s definitely an opportunity that I would love to be a part of, helping turn things around. I was part of a culture change before in my career, and I would love to be able to do it there. But at the end of the day, God holds the pen. Just continue to keep staying true to my journey.”
The Jets Face Decisions at Quarterback With Justin Fields & Tyrod Taylor Ahead of NFL Draft
Justin Fields is under contract with New York for another season as part of a two-year, $40 million deal. The Jets hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft and could also select a quarterback.
New York is likely going to miss out on landing Indiana star Fernando Mendoza who is the favorite to be selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 pick. Taylor is making it clear that he wants to play again in 2026.
“I just take it one day at a time,” Taylor explained ahead of NFL free agency. “Right now it’s just about training, getting the body back in the swing of things. Obviously free agency is coming up.
“I’m happy with the body of work that I was able to put together with the Jets for the last two years. See what opportunity comes next and take it full steam ahead.”
Tyrod Taylor Partnered With DQ for the ‘Taylor & Swift’ Meal
It remains to be seen how the Jets value Taylor. The veteran is one of the most appealing backup quarterbacks given his ability to both start and win games for an NFL team when needed.
Taylor partnered with DQ for a hilarious campaign alongside Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift for the “Taylor and Swift” meal amid the Super Bowl festivities. As for Taylor’s go-to Blizzard order, the veteran quarterback is in his cookie dough era.
“I partnered up with (DQ) and DeAndre Swift on the ‘Taylor and Swift’ halftime feast,” Taylor remarked. “Flamethrower chicken strips served with the DQ signature soft serve. Comes with other dippers as well too, but that’s the pairing that I like.
“… As far as my favorite Blizzard, probably the cookie dough blizzard treat. I’m a cookie dough fan, so that’s the go-to.”
