Wolves vs Arsenal: Form and stats ahead of Premier League showdown

Arsenal travel to the West Midlands for a midweek Premier League clash with Wolves, aiming to stretch their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

Mikel Arteta’s side head into the fixture fresh from a comfortable 4-0 victory over League One outfit Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup — a result that secured their place in the fifth round.

That win followed a 1-1 draw at Brentford, where the Gunners missed the chance to maintain their six‑point cushion over Manchester City.

This match stands alone in the midweek schedule due to Arsenal’s involvement in the EFL Cup final in March, when the fixture was originally set to be played.

As a result, they will hold a game in hand over Pep Guardiola’s side until Man City’s postponed meeting with Crystal Palace is rearranged. City would have hosted Palace this week, but the Eagles’ UEFA Conference League commitments prevented the fixture from being scheduled.

Whether this proves advantageous for Arsenal remains to be seen, but their immediate priority is clear: secure three points against a struggling Wolves side on Wednesday night.

The Gunners are chasing a 10th consecutive win over the Old Gold, though their December encounter showed it will be anything but straightforward. Rob Edwards’ side caused Arsenal significant problems, and it took two second‑half own goals – including one deep into stoppage time – to spare the league leaders from a damaging setback.

Wolves also progressed to the FA Cup fifth round after a hard‑earned win at Grimsby, but their league form remains dire. They are winless since the start of the year, and appear destined for a return to the Championship after eight consecutive seasons in the top flight.

Even so, under the Molineux floodlights and with little left to lose, they will be eager to show fight against the division’s title favourites.
