A key staff member under Bill Belichick will be the interim football coach at a Massachusetts high school.
Ernie Adams will take over as Phillips Academy–Andover‘s coach on an interim basis for the 2026 season, according to the school’s website.
Phillips Academy, one of the highest-ranked high schools in the world, will begin its search for a coach after the 2026 season, according to Recruiting Board’s Alex Agrella.
Adams, 72, was part of the Patriots’ staff during their dynasty run and was Belichick’s right hand man during his time in New England from 2000-21. He had a key role in the Patriots’ six Super Bowl titles.
He had sort of a mystery role with the Patriots and mostly worked behind the scenes. Adams rarely spoke publicly.
He retired from professional football in 2021.
Adams attended Phillips Academy. He first met Belichick there in 1970 before beginning a career in the NFL.
