The Los Angeles Rams have had many headliners at wide receiver, from Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce to Cooper Kupp and the current crop, featuring Puka Nacua. And yet, less-heralded contributors like Robert Woods were just as critical to the Rams’ resurgence.
Woods did not begin his career with the Rams.
Instead, he found his way there just in time for the return from St. Louis in 2017, and helped the team reach two Super Bowls, winning in their second trip to the big game.

“We’ve signed @robertwoods to a one-day contract to retire as a Ram. [face holding back tears emoji],” the Rams posted on X on February 17.
The news comes after Woods announced his retirement on social media.
“After 27 unforgettable years of pouring my heart into this game, and 13 incredible years in the NFL It’s time for me to step away from playing the sport that has given me everything. Football has never just been a game to me it has been my passion, my purpose, and my lifelong dream. I cherished every moment my cleats touched the grass. Every time I stepped onto the field, I was determined to leave a piece of myself in every snap,” Woods said in the post on Instagram on February 17.
“I always wanted my presence to be felt – by my teammates, by my opponents, by everyone watching. I competed with everything I had, willing to do whatever it took to finish the job and bring home the win. Lifting the Lombardi Trophy and becoming a Super Bowl champion was the dream I held onto as a child, and having the blessing to reach two and win one in 2022 is something I will treasure forever.”
Woods also thanked his family, including his wife and kids, and all of the teams that he played for in his career. A second-round pick taken 41st overall in the 2013 draft by the Buffalo Bills, Woods also played for the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans.
He walks away from the game after spending the 2025 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad. Woods did not see the field during this past season. His choice to retire a Ram is fitting.
Woods finishes his career with 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns on 683 receptions. He had a 367-4,626-23 line in his five seasons with the Rams, the longest stint he had with any single team. That includes 45 grabs for 556 yards and 4 TD catches during the 2021 season.

Woods’ retirement announcement drew attention from Rams Nation and around the league, underscoring how respected the veteran is.
Former Rams wideout and 2021 teammate Ben Skowronski posted “Bobby Trees. Legend.”
Woods’ Texans teammate and fellow wideout Tank Dell said, “My brotha!” in the comments. Meanwhile, Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown simply shared a praying hands emoji on the ex-Rams playmaker’s post.
It was not just players, as Rams media also noted Woods’ impact on the organization. He did not garner the same fanfare as teammates, like Odell Beckham Jr.
Still, Woods was key to the Rams’ success as anyone for McVay and Co.
“Robert Woods has signed a one-day contract to retire as a Ram,” LA Daily News’ Adam Grosbard posted on X. “Always credited along with Cooper Kupp for setting the culture in the Rams WR room during the Sean McVay era.”
“Once a Ram. Always a Ram,” LA said in another post. “Congrats on a great career, @robertwoods!”
