Green Bay Packers: Rich Bisaccia shocks fans by stepping down from team ahead of 2026 NFL season

The Green Bay Packers have already had to replace one coordinator this off-season. When defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley was hired as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay hired Jonathan Gannon to replace him. Gannon had just been fired as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, but was previously the defensive coordinator of a Philadelphia Eagles defense that appeared in the Super Bowl.

And now, weeks after the season ended, they are going to need a new special teams coordinator as well. In a shocking announcement, it has been reported that Rich Bisaccia, who also was the Packers assistant head coach, had stepped down.

Bisaccia, who arrived in Green Bay in 2022, has been under fire from Packers fans for years due to the special teams’ poor performance. The organization’s refusal to move on from him despite these poor showings was a source of frustration as well.

As it turns out, Bisaccia did not need to be fired as he stepped down himself:

In a statement released by the Packers, Bisaccia said:

“After taking some time to reflect over the last few weeks, I have made the decision to step down as the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator of the Green Bay Packers.”

“I am incredibly grateful to Matt LaFleur, Brian Gutekunst, Ed Policy and Mark Murphy for their unwavering trust and support throughout my time in Green Bay. I am also thankful to the players for their consistent work and relentless effort to improve every single day. I would like to thank everyone in the organization for their dedication and commitment. The people in this building make it a special place to work.”

“I want to also thank our fans and the people throughout the Green Bay community for their passion and love for this team. Coaching for the Green Bay Packers was truly an honor, and I will always be grateful for my time here. I look forward to whatever is next for me and my family, and I wish nothing but the best for everyone in the organization.”
