Packers Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia Steps Down After Four Seasons: Matt LaFleur Announces Departure

In an official statement released by the Packers:

“While we are disappointed to lose a person and coach as valuable as Rich, we respect his decision to step down from the Packers. Rich was a tremendous resource to me and our entire coaching staff who had a profound impact on our players and our culture throughout the building.

We can’t thank him enough for his contributions to our team over the last four years. We wish Rich, his wife, Jeanne, and the rest of their family all the best moving forward.”

Bisaccia joined the Packers in 2022 after a successful stint with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he famously served as interim head coach in 2021 and led them to the playoffs. In Green Bay, he also carried the assistant head coach title, bringing veteran leadership to a special teams unit that had been a consistent area of criticism in prior seasons.

Oversaw gradual improvement in coverage units and return game efficiency.

Managed young specialists like kicker Anders Carlson and punter Daniel Wetherspoon (later Daniel Whelan).

Faced ongoing fan and media scrutiny over inconsistencies, including missed field goals, penalties, and occasional blocked kicks—issues that persisted despite better overall rankings in some advanced metrics (e.g., middle-of-the-pack DVOA in 2025).

The decision comes at a time when the Packers are navigating other staff changes and preparing for a critical offseason focused on retaining key free agents and building around Jordan Love.

Implications for the Packers

Immediate Need: Green Bay now must find a new special teams coordinator.

Potential Promotion or External Hire: Options could include promoting from within or bringing in a veteran coordinator from elsewhere.

Fan Sentiment: Reactions on social media have been largely positive, with many Packers fans expressing relief and viewing Bisaccia’s departure as an opportunity for fresh ideas in a unit that struggled to meet expectations.

No immediate replacement has been named. The Packers are expected to begin the search promptly as they prepare for the 2026 season.

This marks another notable coaching change in Green Bay this offseason. What do you think—good riddance or loss of valuable experience? Who would you like to see as the next special teams coordinator? Share your thoughts below!
