Lakers target could force Nuggets to trade Cam Johnson

The Denver Nuggets could trade Cam Johnson to preserve cap space and keep restricted free agent Peyton Watson, who is also reportedly on the Lakers' offseason radar.

Rival executives see Cam Johnson as a potential trade candidate this offseason, largely because of Peyton Watson, according to NBA reporter Evan Sidery.

Denver Nuggets / Schedule

Watson, a restricted free agent, is expected to receive offer sheets exceeding $20 million per year. Sidery notes that trading Johnson could allow the Denver Nuggets to retain Watson while preserving cap flexibility.

Watson, 23, is averaging 14.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in his fourth season with Denver. He's also one of six players the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been discussing internally for next offseason.

Johnson, 29, is putting up 11.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game after joining Denver in the Michael Porter Jr. trade.
