12 goals in 11 games: Is Shumaira Mheuka ready for Chelsea first team squad?

18-year-old Chelsea wonderkid Shumaira Mheuka has already made his debut for the first team squad and featured in a number of competitions, but the question has to be asked – has his goalscoring record proven he is ready for more?

The young Blues currently sit second behind Ipswich Town in Premier League 2, and have a game in hand and a chance to take top spot.

One of the main reasons for their success has been Mheuka. The striker has scored 12 goals in 11 PL2 games so far in the 2025/26 season.

Adding that to five goals in as many games in the UEFA Youth League has made for a very impressive season for the 18-year-old, who is surely knocking hard on Liam Rosenior’s door.

The majority of Mheuka’s outings in a Chelsea shirt came when Enzo Maresca was in charge, although he did play for the new boss against Hull in the FA Cup fourth round.

Mheuka already has three hat-tricks to his name this season, while some of their current first team options struggle for form.

Liam Delap has just two goals to his name this season, and is cutting a frustrated figure in the number nine role.

Having a genuine rotation option for Joao Pedro would be very useful for the Blues amid their hectic schedule, and Mheuka is the best possible choice for the role.

Mheuka taking his form to the international stage

Despite all of the extremely talented names in the England U19 squad, no one has delivered as much for them in the last 12 months as Mheuka.

He scored a brace against Scotland back in November, as fellow Chelsea youngster Jesse Derry also shone for his country.

After talk of a potential loan move away in January, the teenager has remained at the club for the rest of the campaign at least, and they should make the most of his talent.

An FA Cup tie against Wrexham could be the best opportunity for Chelsea to give Mheuka a chance, with that game set for the weekend of 6-9 March.
