Man United will need to replace Casemiro in the summer, could a towering Bundesliga star be the man to fill the Brazilian’s boots?
Manchester United need to find a way to replace a player who, at their peak, was one of the best in the world in his position.
The Red Devils never really saw Casemiro hit the heights of his time at Real Madrid, however, he will leave a sizeable presence that needs to be filled in the Old Trafford dressing room as well as a sizeable gap on the wage bill too. The list of names to replace the Brazil legend is growing with a new name being added.
Man United add new name to midfield shortlist
Alongside them, Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha has been added according to the Manchester Evening News with the 25-year old Germany international standing at over 6ft 3inches tall and being more than capable of handling himself in the rough and tumble of the Premier League. Nmecha is more defence-minded that the Premier League trio, but he is more than capable of dropping between centre-halves to build play and give managers a different option. Tottenham and Chelsea are also said to be keeping tabs.
What midfielder should United buy?
United have learned the hard way that there are no guarantees that good players will adapt to the pressure of playing for a big club and of English football. Jadon Sancho is the best example of this. A player who, on paper, in terms of statistics and profile, should have been a success at Old Trafford only to prove to be an unmitigated flop and a financial blunder.
This makes mitigating risk all the more important. Tonali is a very good player who, at his best, wouldn’t look out of place alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes, however, his consistency has dipped this season. Anderson and Mainoo could dovetail perfectly, but with a price-tag of £100m, the Nottingham Forest midfielder wouldn’t come cheap. Wharton, on the other hand, could be available for £60m if United qualify for the Champions League which should put him top of the shopping list.
