Chelsea and Liverpool could find themselves in a transfer tussle for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers this summer.
Speculation suggests that Rogers has been on Chelsea’s shortlist for a while, and the attacking midfielder is now also being linked with a move to Liverpool.
It was even claimed recently that the Reds have held talks with Rogers about a transfer.

However, that has been swiftly denied in a boost to Chelsea, who have already had to watch Jeremy Jacquet join their Premier League rivals.

Morgan Rogers’ camp deny Aston Villa star has spoken to Liverpool, Chelsea or any other club
According to TEAMtalk, people close to Rogers have denied that the 23-year-old has held discussions with Liverpool.
They have claimed that Rogers has not spoken to the Reds, Chelsea or any of the other clubs that he has been linked to.
However, the same report also says that Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent, Joe Shields, wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

It means that dialogue could be opened up eventually, though Villa will be very reluctant to let their star man go.
With that being said, according to journalist Simon Phillips, Rogers’ new contract may possess a release clause.

Morgan Rogers outperforming his xG this season
One benefit of signing Rogers is that Chelsea would be getting an attacker who can score from long range.
Rogers has not had the easiest of chances this season. As per FotMob, his xG is only 4.87. Yet he has actually managed to score eight goals in the Premier League.
There is a huge difference between his xG and actual goals scored, showing that the England international can find the back of the net from positions you would not expect a player to.
All in all, Rogers is going to cost a lot of money if he leaves Villa Park in the summer, but he could be worth it. Chelsea should be doing everything they can do to sign him.
