It feels as if the day is growing ever nearer that the Miami Dolphins will finally either release or trade Tua Tagovailoa. Once that day occurs, they can finally turn their heads to solving the QB situation. Many Miami Dolphins fans believed that since the new regime largely came from the Packers organization, they could take a huge swing at Packers backup QB Malik Willis. As a result, many pundits, including Chris Simms, have been quick to heap praise on the young QB.

Miami may have no other solution at the position as they don’t have the draft picks nor are there high upside QB prospects throughout the draft either. Therefore, in a sea of mediocre options, Willis stands out. There are many QB needy teams throughout the NFL who could take a look into Willis, but the most important factor is that Willis gets not only the money, but the praise people believes he deserves for his career resurgence.

A Resurgence That Has People Talking

Chris Simms knows all about playing the quarterback position. While some say his knowledge of the position hasn’t translated well to punditry or evaluating talent, one thing he did get right was his evaluation of Willis. In fact, going back to the 2022 draft, his decision to rank Willis above the first QB taken off the board in Kenny Pickett now looks like a fantastic take. In a recent interview with Dan Patrick, he was even more effusive in his praise of Willis’ time with the Packers.

“I think Malik Willis is a superstar. […] Malik Willis has proven he’s got special talent. He has a special arm. He’s got special mobility. He knows how to run the offense and do all of that…he’s a great story”, Simms said of how Willis has emerged onto the scene.

While some will say it’s a small sample size, Simms isn’t wrong in saying that Willis has impressed with the reps he’s been given. In the time he’s gotten to play over his last two seasons in Green Bay, he has a 78.7 percent completion percentage, zero interceptions thrown, and an impressive 134.6 passer rating to boot. Simms even went so far as to say he may be even better than the man starting ahead of him.

[Willis] shows more *potential* to be a greater player than Jordan Love. That’s what I would say right now. But I gotta see a little bit more before I say he’s *better* than Jordan Love”, Simms said of Willis’ untapped potential.

Why Miami Could Be the Perfect Fit

While Willis is expected to command a hefty fee this offseason, the Miami Dolphins might just be the team he wants to play for right now. Even the loss of Tyreek Hill, they still have dynamic playmakers in their offense that just needs a competent facilitator to get them the ball. Willis is highly familiar with both Hafley and Sullivan and could be set to run a highly friendly offense.

Willis may not be the sexiest of free agent options, but for the Dolphins, he could be just the right guy for their current plans.
