Raiders Request Interview with Vikings Assistant Jordan Traylor for Quarterbacks Coach Job

The Las Vegas Raiders requested to interview the Minnesota Vikings’ assistant offensive coordinator Jordan Traylor for the team’s vacant position of quarterbacks coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday. Traylor, 33, currently serves as the assistant offensive coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach for the Vikings.

This comes as the Raiders get ready for what promises to be one of the most important off-seasons for the team. The Raiders own the number one overall selection for the 2026 NFL Draft, and Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza is the heavy favorite to go to Las Vegas at the top of the draft.

Whoever gets the QB coach job will be stepping into one of the most important developmental roles in the league right now.

Traylor’s resume includes three of the biggest minds on the sidelines for the biggest offenses in the game. The new Raiders’ head coach, Klint Kubiak, as well as Vikings’ head coach Kevin O’Connell, and the new Las Vegas head coach, Klint Kubiak, all figure into Traylor’s background.

The connection between Traylor and Kubiak is not one of cold outreach for the job. The new Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach, Klint Kubiak, served as the New Orleans Saints’ 2024 offensive coordinator, and Traylor served as the team’s offensive assistant coach.

The new Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator, Andrew Janocko, also served on the staff for the Saints. So, Kubiak already knows what Traylor can bring to the team’s quarterback room.

Traylor played six seasons with the New Orleans franchise before the Vikings signed him last offseason to replace Grant Udinski, who is now the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator. Traylor himself played quarterback in college at Texas A&M.

He is the son of UTSA Roadrunners head coach Jeff Traylor, who is well respected within the state of Texas when it comes to football.

What This Hire Would Mean for Fernando Mendoza’s Development in Vegas

Kubiak has made one thing quite clear when it comes to building out the staff of the Las Vegas franchise. He recently spoke to the press about this and said, “We’re trying to assemble a great team of teachers. We’ve got to get some really good teachers and coaches here, and get us all on the same page, and get our players going in the same direction.”

A QB coach that is already familiar with Kubiak’s language and Janocko’s system means that one level of communication is now eliminated. Having Traylor come in and being familiar with these two men means that the communication gap is now much shorter.

Minnesota is losing another piece of their staff that has been thinned out this offseason. However, whether or not they can retain Traylor is still to be seen under Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.

The interview request is the first step that needs to be taken, and the Raiders are still trying to build out Kubiak’s staff with what could end up being a very important draft class.
