On February 18, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Chiefs have reportedly restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract. According to his report, the Chiefs restructured Mahomes’ deal this week, lowering his salary cap number from $78.2 million to $34.65 million for the 2026 season.

In doing so, Kansas City has created a staggering $43.56 million in cap space, which would give the front office far greater financial flexibility as they prepare for free agency moves, roster extensions, and potential additions. Mahomes is currently playing under the 10-year contract extension he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in July 2020, which runs through the 2031 NFL season.

The deal is worth $450 million in base value and could reach $503 million with incentives. It includes roughly $141.48 million in guaranteed money and carries an average annual salary of $45 million, with a $10 million signing bonus built into the structure.
