KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KLTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs restructured quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ contract to free up over $43 million in cap space, according to NFL.com.
The former Whitehouse Wildcat signed a 10-year, $450 million contract in July 2020.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that the Chiefs converted $54.45 million of Mahomes’ 2026 salary into a signing bonus, creating $43.56 million in cap room. That converted the payments into a prorated signing bonus spread over the remaining years of the deal.
Mahomes was set to count $78.214 million against the salary cap in 2026. With the restructure, his number now sits at $34.65 million.
Mahomes is rehabbing from a season-ending knee injury in December.
