We have a decent idea of who the Pittsburgh Steelers will and won't bring back among their pending free agents and players under contract.
But could general manager Omar Khan have an unexpected move up his sleeve?
That's what a source is suggesting to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan. Fillipponi is hearing the Steelers are going to cut ties with a player fans don't expect them to.
“There is someone fans expect to back on the team in 2026 that won’t be. And that move is going to surprise you guys," the source said to the radio host.
Some fans have suggested that could be Patrick Queen or Jalen Ramsey, although it would not be at all surprising to see Ramsey cut or traded. Queen has also been speculated about as a possible cut candidate.
Cam Heyward was another suggestion we saw, and it's not outlandish to think that's possible if Heyward once again pushes for a contract extension at the age of 36.
Of course, Aaron Rodgers is another name to float out there, but as is the case with Ramsey, nobody would be shocked if Rodgers retires or plays elsewhere in 2026.
If we had to bet on it, we would go with Alex Highsmith.
The Steelers have a crowded edge rushers room with Highsmith, T.J. Watt, Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer.
If the Steelers are looking to get Sawyer and Herbig more snaps and feel they can fill Highsmith's shoes moving forward, trading the veteran for more draft capital or a player who can help them at a different position becomes possible.
