The Green Bay Packers defense looked better on the field in 2025 when Micah Parsons was on it. It didn’t look as good with him off the field. Green Bay finished with a 9-7-1 record and the seventh seed in the NFC.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) eludes Green Bay Packers defensive end Rashan Gary (52) during their football game Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
The Packers no doubt will have to make some critical decisions with the roster. One player to keep an eye on this offseason for Green Bay is Rashan Gary. Will he be on the roster for the 2026 season or could they move off of him? During the 2025 season, he recorded 45 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one pass deflection. Gary has been with Green Bay since the 2019 season.
Green Bay Packers Insider Believes That Rashan Gary Could Be Released This Offseason

Green Bay Packers defensive end Rashan Gary (52) and safety Xavier McKinney (29) run on to the field before their wild card playoff game Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers 31-27.
Matt Schneidman of the Athletic wrote about two potential players who could be released by the Packers this offseason, but there is one name that can catch everyone’s eye. Gary could potentially be released by this franchise this offseason. Schneidman said,
“Another cut candidate is defensive end Rashan Gary, who has a 2026 base salary of $18 million. Cutting him after he went missing in the second half of the season would free up about $11 million in cap space.”
He is 28 years old and Gary has not proven to be the primary star on the field in Parsons’ absence. Green Bay could be better off using that money somewhere else. It would not be the worst thing in the world for the Packers to move on from him. There are some fans who wondered why he received that contract extension a couple of years ago in the first place. If they did release him, some NFL team would sign him, but it doesn’t appear as if it is working out well with him for this organization anymore.
