Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald is reuniting with another former Baltimore Ravens assistant as he fills out his offensive coaching staff — Thomas Hammock, who spent the last seven seasons as the head coach at Northern Illinois University.
As first reported by ESPN Wednesday morning, Hammock is expected to become the Seahawks’ new running-backs coach and senior offensive assistant.
NIU confirmed Hammock is leaving in a post on the school’s website.
The 44-year-old Hammock was the running backs coach of the Ravens from 2014-18, overlapping with Macdonald’s first five years there, before becoming the head coach at NIU.
He was 35-47 at NIU, most famously leading Northern Illinois to a win over then No. 5 Notre Dame 16-14 early in the 2024 season.
Hammock fills the running-backs coach vacancy created when Kennedy Polamalu took a leave of absence in December.
Hammock is the third former Ravens assistant Macdonald has hired over the last week joining Zachary Orr (expected to become inside linebackers coach) and Daniel Stern (whose exact title isn’t known, but he could reportedly be a pass game strategist).
