OPINION: Arsenal Should Sign£40m England Star Who’s‘Open’To PL Return After Making Gabriel Jesus Contract Decision

Arsenal should sign an English striker to replace Gabriel Jesus in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have had question marks over the striker spot for several years now, as they have been trying to find a reliable number nine to help Mikel Arteta get over the line and win more trophies.

Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in the summer, and he has performed decently so far, as he’s scored eight goals in 24 matches in the Premier League. However, Gabriel Jesus remains a solid option for Arteta.

However, reports this week have claimed that Arsenal have not entered talks to extend the 27-year-old’s contract, amid a new ‘cutthroat’ approach from Sporting Director Andrea Berta. It means that Jesus will leave in June 2027, so the Gunners will need to find a replacement for him.

Arsenal should sign Toney to replace Jesus

Despite not being in the Premier League since the summer of 2024, Ivan Toney remains on the radar of a lot of Premier League clubs, because of his previous scoring record, and his continued form since moving to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli from Brentford in 2024.

His £40m move was controversial at the time, but Toney has delivered. He is the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League, ahead of former Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo. Toney has scored 58 goals in 76 games for Al-Ahli.

In the Premier League, Toney was as deadly as anyone, as he scored 36 goals in 85 games for Brentford in the league, and could be a really good option to provide some serious competition for Gyokeres at Arsenal.

Toney is ‘open’ to a Premier League return

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Toney made it clear that he isn’t ruling out a return to the Premier League, although he is happy with his life at Al-Ahli as things stand.

He said: “Never say never. I have goals I want to achieve here first, the club have signed me for a long period of time. I want to repay them and bring trophies. In football and life, you never know what’s around the corner. Who knows what the next step is?

“I’m comfortable here and like being here. I’m doing well, my numbers speak for themselves and I’m settled. I’m enjoying my football and don’t see why I’d leave to go back to where I was.”
