The Spurs have signed veteran center Mason Plumlee to a 10-day contract
The San Antonio Spurs were hoping to take a step forward in the 2025-26 campaign, and to this point, they have looked like a legit title contender. With Victor Wembanyama leading the way, the Spurs have a strong core group of young players who have helped the team exceed expectations in the crowded Western Conference.
Even in the wake of the trade deadline, though, San Antonio has some weak spots on its roster that it is looking to address. Ahead of the team’s return from the All-Star break, one of those needs was filled when the team made a move to bring veteran center Mason Plumlee to town after he was recently waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

San Antonio has found a solid center duo of Wembanyama and Luke Kornet this season, but an added layer of depth behind them certainly wouldn’t hurt. Wembanyama has had his fair share of injury issues early in his career, and Kornet is on pace to play the most minutes of any season in his nine-year career.
That led the team to take a look at Plumlee after the Thunder let him hit the open market. The No. 22 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Plumlee has bounced all over the league in recent years, as the Spurs would be the eighth team he’s suited up for during his time in the NBA. He began the year with the Charlotte Hornets before getting dealt to the Thunder ahead of the trade deadline.
Plumlee hasn’t played much this season, as he’s averaging just 1.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 75% from the field in 14 games of action. While he’s not a flashy player, Plumlee can still hold his own as an option off the end of the bench, which led San Antonio to sign him to a 10-day contract to see what he’s got left in the tank.

Plumlee will likely play sparingly for the Spurs (if he even suits up at all) during the duration of this contract. There’s no harm in bringing him to town to see if he could become a contributor for the rest of the season, though, but San Antonio likely doesn’t have many expectations for the soon-to-be 36-year-old big man.
With the All-Star break in the rearview mirror, the Spurs will return to action and look to continue chasing down the Thunder for the No. 1 seed in the West. While they are three games behind OKC currently, that is a deficit San Antonio is capable of closing. That will start with their first game back from the All-Star break, which will see them square off against one of Plumlee’s former teams, the Phoenix Suns, on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.
