Report: The Hungarian Liverpool tried to sign in Jan is available for£8.7m in the summer

Liverpool could add another Hungarian to their squad with reports suggesting that Galatasaray right back Roland Sallai is a person of interest.

The summer transfer window is looming and while there is almost no chance Liverpool repeat their £460m spend from last year, they will once again be busy.

A £60m deal for Rennes’ Jermey Jacquet is already confirmed, which will boost Arne Slot’s depth at centre-back.

While it’s not clear yet who Liverpool are going to sign, it’s clear that RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is a major target although there is a great deal of competition for his signature.

Liverpool and Sunderland made attempts to sign Roland Sallai in the January transfer window

After Trent Alexander-Arnold moved to Real Madrid in the summer, he was replaced by former Bayer Leverkusen fullback Jeremie Frimpong, but the 25-year-old has struggled to remain fit.

Already this season, he has missed a total of 16 games due to thigh and hamstring problems – or a total of 78 days. Conor Bradley has been similarly unreliable, missing 13 games so far but is not expected back for months due to his knee surgery.

This is why Liverpool tried to sign Sallai, according to Turkish news outlet Aspor. They claim that the Reds and Sunderland tried to sign the 28-year-old in January, while Brentford are also keen.

While all approaches were rebuffed in the winter window, Galatasaray are reportedly keen to make maximum profit in the summer transfer window and so Sallai will be available then. His market value is reportedly €10m (£8.7m).

Liverpool are beginning to realise what a loss Alexander-Arnold is

It’s safe to say there was nobody at Liverpool was under the impression that Alexander-Arnold was a bad player but after the manner of his departure from Anfield, he has almost been erased from all conversation surrounding the Reds.

However, now with the right back market looking quite dry, the Real Madrid fullback’s value is even more stark.

Frimpong and Bradley have both been unable to remain fit but even if they were fit and firing, they’d not hold a torch to Alexander-Arnold’s creative talents.
