Daytona 500 winner Tyler Reddick is speaking out after NBA legend Michael Jordan had an interaction with his son in victory lane that received backlash.
Jordan, the co-owner of 23XI Racing, was shown on camera touching Reddick’s son Beau’s shirt and legs. You can check out video of the interaction here.
The clip went viral with several people criticizing Jordan and questioning why he was touching Beau.
Others defended Jordan, stating that he helped the kid out after he got champagne and Gatorade poured on him.
Tyler Reddick recently joined Stephen A. Smith and shared his thoughts on the interaction.
According to Reddick, Jordan did nothing wrong.
“Yeah, I mean, from my perspective, I’ve gotten to know Michael and his family very well over the years I’ve been here with 23XI. I don’t see what other people see when it comes to this,” Tyler Reddick said. “For me, it’s a huge moment. This is the biggest moment of my career. It’s a huge moment for my family and for his family.
“And I just put that off to the side and think about the look on (Jordan’s wife) Yvette’s face and the whole family and his whole group when they got to victory lane. And just how happy everybody was and celebrating together. So yeah, that’s where I’m at with it.”
Reddick, who has been with 23XI since 2023, added that he has enjoyed driving for Jordan’s team.
The 30-year-old has won nine Cup Series races, but Sunday’s victory at the Daytona 500 was his biggest yet.
“For me, I just love being able to deliver in these big moments for him,” Tyler Reddick said. “We’ve been able to do it a few times.
“There’s no race bigger than the Daytona 500, and to be able to deliver that for him and hold that trophy, the Harley J. Earl Trophy up in victory lane, is stuff you can only dream of as a kid, honestly.”
