Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a candidate to become head coach of Real Madrid if the club opt for a managerial change this summer. Alvaro Arbeloa is currently in charge following Xabi Alonso’s departure after less than eight months.

Klopp, now head of global soccer at Red Bull, remains an attractive option for Madrid despite his long-term deal. He left Liverpool in 2024, citing fatigue after winning several trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Reports emerged this week that Manchester United and Chelsea made approaches, though his agent Marc Kosicke said interest was informal, and both clubs have denied it.

“Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England,” said Kosicke in an interview with German website Transfermarkt. “Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there.”

“Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These enquiries keep coming.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Jurgen Klopp amid links with Real Madrid. Romano claims that while Madrid admire Klopp, there are currently no advanced negotiations, with the German still committed to his role at Red Bull.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Then, guys, if you ask me what’s going to happen with the future of Jurgen Klopp, don’t forget that he’s still very busy with the Red Bull project.

“Very focused on that. On Real Madrid, I keep telling you guys, first of all, let’s see what happens with Alvaro Arbeloa because Alvaro Arbeloa is doing a very good job now. First in La Liga, doing well in the Champions League with the playoffs, now the first leg with Benfica.

“So, at the moment, let’s see what happens with Alvaro Arbeloa. First step. Second step, Jurgen Klopp, as I told you in January, has some people into the Real Madrid board appreciating him a lot, but at the moment, I’m not aware of anything else in terms of direct negotiations, official proposals, or concrete talks. So that’s the status as of today.”
