The future of Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce has once again become a major talking point heading into the 2026 NFL offseason.
Just like last year, there are some who believe that Kelce could choose to ride off into the sunset of retirement. However, there are other rumors swirling that Kelce could return to the Chiefs for one more year.
While either option is possible, there aren’t many talking about Kelce leaving Kansas City to sign with another team. That scenario has been brought up in a new rumor.
Craig Carton stated on his show “The Craig Carton Show,” that Kelce could actually end up deciding to leave the Chiefs to join the New York Giants in NFL free agency this offseason.
"Rumor is that Travis Kelce wants to come back for another year,” Carton said. “Kelce wants to play for the NY Giants! He and his wife can live in NYC! It's just a rumor - do not sleep on the Giants signing Kelce this offseason!"
Could the New York Giants Actually Steal Travis Kelce From the Chiefs?
Last season, the Giants took a big step in the right direction. Jaxson Dart looks to be the long-term future at quarterback for New York and Cam Skattebo gives hope for a franchise caliber running back as well. Malik Nabers missed a huge chunk of the season due to a knee injury, but he’s a dynamic playmaker as well.
To begin the offseason, the Giants were able to make a huge upgrade at head coach. John Harbaugh was hired by New York after parting ways with the Baltimore Ravens.
Kelce might very well find helping turn the Giants around as a fun challenge.
During the 2025 NFL season with Kansas City, Kelce played in all 17 regular season games. He caught 76 passes for 851 yards and five touchdowns. Even at 36 years old, he’s still one of the best tight ends in the NFL.
Joining New York would give Kelce a goal to end his NFL career. With Patrick Mahomes’ status for the 2026 season unknown after an ACL tear late int he season, finishing his career with the Giants might actually make sense for Kelce.
More than likely, if he does choose to return for another season, it will be for the Chiefs. It would be shocking to see him leave Kansas City, but the idea can’t be ruled out entirely.
