Ex-Girlfriend Sues Chiefs Star Rashee Rice Alleging Physical Abuse During Pregnancy

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is the focus of a major civil lawsuit brought against him by Dacoda Jones, the mother of Rice’s two children and his ex-girlfriend of about eight years. The lawsuit was filed on Feb 16 by Jones against Rice in Dallas County District Court.

Rice allegedly choked, strangled, scratched, hit, and head-butted Jones multiple times over 19 months, from Dec 2023 to Jul 2025. The lawsuit was obtained by TMZ Sports.

Jones claims the alleged abuse occurred at the couple’s shared residences in Victory Park, Texas, and Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The lawsuit also alleges Rice threw objects at her, punched the wall, broke furniture, and locked her outside the house in the middle of the night.

Jones claims most of the alleged incidents occurred while she was pregnant. She’s seeking over $1 million in damages, though the actual figure isn’t mentioned. The lawsuit was first reported by Dov Kleiman, an NFL insider on X, on Feb 18.

This lawsuit against Rice did not come as a surprise. In Jan 2026, Jones posted pictures on Instagram of her injuries, which included cuts and bruises on her face and body. She later removed the post, but the NFL had already seen enough to launch a personal investigation into Rice for possible violations of the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. The investigation into Rice remains ongoing.

In January, the Kansas City Chiefs issued the following statement regarding the matter: “The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League. We have no further comment at this time.”

As part of her Instagram post, Jones wrote the following: “I’m so tired of keeping quiet. I’m so tired of protecting his image. I’ve been through too much in a span of 8 years and I’ve had ENOUGH!”

A civil hearing is set for May 4, 2026. At the time of this report, Rice has not been charged with any crimes regarding Jones’ accusations. The attorney representing Rice has not commented on the lawsuit.

Rice’s Prior Felony Convictions Place This New Lawsuit in a Much Darker Light

This is not the first time that Rice has gotten himself into a difficult legal situation. In Jul 2025, the 25-year-old Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges stemming from a chain-reaction crash he caused in Dallas on Mar 30, 2024. Rice received five years of probation and 30 days in jail for the offense. The terms of the probation included the requirement that the player “support your dependents” and not commit any other crimes.

The NFL suspended Rice for the first six games of the 2025 season due to the crash. Injuries forced him to play in only eight games of the 2025 season.

However, with the filing of the civil lawsuit accusing Rice of domestic abuse and the NFL investigation of the matter ongoing, the chances of Rice playing in the 2026 season are far from certain. The NFL could rule on the matter prior to training camp, which would effectively end Rice’s 2026 season before it begins.

For a player who has been one of Patrick Mahomes’ most dangerous weapons for two seasons now, that is a big change that may outlast any discussion of his return to football.
