Asked about his alleged use of a burner account to disparage former and current teammates, Kevin Durant brushed off speculation on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old forward spoke to reporters at the conclusion of Houston Rockets practice, days after rampant online speculation that Durant, a prolific social media user, was behind the Twitter/X account “@gethigher77″ that made negative comments against current teammates, Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr., as well as Devin Booker and Kyrie Irving, Durant’s former mates with the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets, respectively.
“I know you’ve gotta ask these questions, but I’m not here to get into Twitter nonsense,” Durant replied to Varun Shankar of The Houston Chronicle. “I’m just here to focus on the season, keep it pushing, but I get why you ask those questions.”
Asked if his teammates were aware of the online discussion, Durant said everybody is just focused on playing basketball.
“My teammates know what it is,” Durant said. “We’ve been locked in the whole season. We enjoyed our break, had a good practice today and looking forward to the road trip.”
A native of Washington, D.C., Durant is in his 18th season out of Texas. A 15-time All-Star, Durant is averaging 25.8 points on .506 shooting, 5.3 boards and 4.8 assists over 36.7 minutes a night in 50 games this season, his first with the Rockets.
The Rockets (33-20) sit in fourth place in the Western Conference. They return from the All-Star break on Thursday night with a visit to the Charlotte Hornets (26-29).
